Gold star awards

By Steven | January 7, 2009

David Farrar weighs in on the drink-driving debate with the sort of thoughtful analysis that threatens to give blogging a good name.

NoRightTurn does the same thing with the Crown Law Office’s vet of the Domestic Violence (Enhancing Safety) Bill.

Well done, those chaps.

Am I right in thinking that the “interests of the child” protections of the Press Council aren’t as rigorous as those of the BSA?

Because I fail to see how this (http://www.stuff.co.nz/4812831a11.html) would get a pass on broadcast news.

I agree that broadcasters might well get into trouble for this… particularly since the 3-year-old child is being criticised in the story for animal abuse and basically blamed for his own injuries.
The Press Council’s principles are more vague, and its precedents more sparse. They’re certainly hot on protecting children, but my hunch is that they’d be okay with this.
